Team BLUE Local Knowledge Report

Dear Team BLUE,

I would like to welcome everyone coming to Team Trials.  Galveston Bay is one of the best places to sail in regards to sailing conditions.  This time of year you can expect wind conditions to be 10-15 knots plus from the South East or 15 to 20 knots from the North depending on the fronts that come through.  I have always been amazed with how inaccurate the weather forecasts are for our area.  This is what makes our venue so challenging.  Wave action is choppy from most wind directions except from the west. Galveston Bay is very shallow so it will get choppy; very similar to Biscayne Bay chop.   If the wind comes from the East to South East, you can depend on it staying steady and possibly swinging to the right as the day goes on.  If the wind comes from the North to North East it can be shifty with big velocity differences on either side of the course.  If the wind does happen to come from the West you can depend on it being very shifty with flat water because the wind will be coming off the land.   I look forward to seeing everyone and if any Team BLUE members have any questions you are more than welcome to talk to me at the regatta.

The 2010 Optimist US Team Trials are here!

North Sails is gearing up for this very exciting event in the Optimist class starting on April 29, at Texas Corinthian Yacht Club on Galveston Bay! Sailors from all over the country will be attending and we want to make sure that you are in the best shape possible for Team Trials!

Team BLUE Leader Brian Bissell and Head Coach Juan Carlos Romero will be attending the event to make sure that all Team BLUE members have the assistance they need on and off of the water during and prior to the event. Don't hesitate to contact them!

For sails we recommend the P4, P5, H-08 or XM-08 depending on the sailor's weight. Our P4 and P5 designs finished 1,3,4 at the Valentine's Day regatta and the H-08 finished 1,2 at the Harken Series #1.
