North Sails is the big winner at the the 2004
US Olympic Trials!
The U.S. Olympic Trials for the Finn, Yngling, Tornado and 49er
classes wound up yesterday in South Florida and we are proud
to report that the majority of the sailors who will represent
the USA in Athens this summer have qualified for the Olympic
Games using North Sails.

Congratulations to Carol Cronin, Liz Filter and Nancy
Haberland and Team Atkins for their
convincing win in the 2004 Yngling Trials!
6 teams sailed
in an extremely close series. With the conditions ranging
from from a choppy 15mph to several races sailed in very
light winds and flat water, consistency became the key.
For Team Aktins this became their strength. Every other
team had two fifth place finishes. After Team Atkins scored
their fifth, they had only one race out of the top 3 and
scored 5 seconds and 2 firsts in the final 9 races...and
were able to sit out the last race with the series wrapped
up.
Team Atkins
sailed North Sails One Design's latest designs built in
San Diego:
North M-3 main
North LM-3 all-around jib
North AP-3 heavy jib
North Full Radial FR-2 spinnaker

Paul Forester and Kevin
Burnham literally dominated the US 470 trials held
in La Porte , TX. With 11 firsts they could sit out the
last two races. Oftentimes they sailed to commanding leads
demonstrating their tremendous speed and conservative tactics.
Foerster/Burnham switched to North Sails in 2003 and worked
closely with the team of Kei Takakuwa from North sails Japan
and Vince Brun from North Sails One Design.
Interesting enough, Foerster was a new first time father
just 3 days before the trials and flew home each night during
the trials to his family in Dallas. Foerster said: "Kevin
reminded me that I needed to concentrate on sailing, and
when I was with my family I didn't think about sailing."
Foerster/Burnham used the latest generation of 470 sails
built by North Sails Japan ( including a Full Radial main
and jib) but serviced here in the US.
In the Women's trials Amanda
Clark and Sarah Mergenthaler
sailed to a strong second, with 4 race wins, using North
Sails exclusively.

Kevin Hall
completely dominated the Finn fleet winning the 23 boat
fleet by 27 points and what impress the most is that he
started racing Finn a year ago. Kevin had a strong start
winning the first four races (he also won 5 more races)
and never finished out of the top four, although he got
a DSQ in race seven for an on-the-water infraction, what
was discarded later.
Kevin used the North HV-2
and HV-2 Light Kevlar
mains and worked close to North Sails Design San Diego refining
the sail shape.
The top 6 boats at the US Finn Olympic trials were powered
by NS.

| EUROPE |

Meg Galliard dominated
the Europe fleet about as completely as you can. Of the
16 races sailed she won 13 of them, got second in one and
sat out the final two to win the berth to Athens.
Meg Gaillard set the pace from the
outset of the regatta, only failing once to cross the finish
line first in race 10 -- when she finished second
to Kathleen Tocke.
Meg was powered by a Europe sail
from North Sails New Zealand. She also finished 3rd at the
2003 ISAF Worlds in Cadiz, Spain, and we wish good luck
at the Olympic games.

North Sails Win the 2004 2.4 Meter
Paralympic Trials!
Repeating his victory from the 2000 US Trials, Tom
Brown dominated the 2004 US trials with 8 firsts
in 12 races. Sailing extremely consistently, Brown threw
out a 3rd place. Tom said: " We had everything from
light winds to breeze blasting into the 20's. I went back
and forth a little with the others but everything turned
out right!"
Brown worked closely with his North team of Bjorn Osterburg
and Stellen Berlin from North Sweden with service and support
when needed from North Sails One Design.
Brown won the Bronze Medal in 2000 and with all his experience
and training for 2004, is looking for an even better finish.

North Sails finish Second in the
2004 Sonar US Paralympic Trials!
The action for the Sonar Class was very tight with three
teams within striking distance throught the series. After
four races and the layday, North customers Paul Callahan,
Keith Burnhans and Rodger
Cleworth were leading by one point
. They sailed consistently, throwing out a third place.
