NORTH SAILS DEVELOPS NEW 3DL GENOA FOR J/24 CLASS
New 3DL J/24 sail used to win 2010 National Championship

San Diego, CA — North Sails announced today the introduction of a new sail into the one design market: a 3DL Genoa for the J/24 class. After months of testing and many design tweaks, this new headsail can be ordered from North Sails now with a four-to-six-week delivery time. Modeled after the ‘Newport’ DX-7 Pentex Genoa, this sail is designed for a very wide steering groove and combines all the benefits of North 3D thermo moulding technolgy, resulting in a strong, durable sail that is lighter and faster than any other J/24 Genoa in the world.

“The development of this sail has been a big project for North Sails and introducing it to J/24 sailors is very exciting for all of us,” said Vince Brun, head of North Sails One Design. “I believe J/24 sailors will be very excited about seeing a totally new and different sail available to them,” added Brun. “This sail has been two-boat tested extensively and was used to win two races at the 2010 J/24 World Championship in August. Will Welles and Chuck Allen also raced with this sail and smoked their competition at the J/24 Nationals in September. There’s no doubt it’s fast and these results prove it’s a winner. Getting the correct amount and distribution of shape into a smaller 3DL sail was challenging for North designers, but thanks to hard work and a lot of perseverance by many people at North Sails including Rich Bowen, Ched Proctor, Per Andersson, Will Welles and Chuck Allen, this is truly an exceptional sail,” added Brun. “We would also like to thank Dan Neri and the team at the North 3DL manufacturing facility in Minden, NV, for turning our idea into a reality.”

“The North 3DL J/24 Genoa has many benefits over its paneled sail counterparts,” explained Chris Snow of North Sails One Design. “The sail, which is just above minimum class weight, is slightly lighter than the Twaron version and significantly lighter than the Pentex Genoa. Using North 3DL technology, we were able to develop a stronger sail that will keep its shape locked in and solid when the breeze picks up,” continued Snow. “J/24 sailors will notice this sail is also more durable and will stretch less than any other Genoa on the market today and when using the North Sails tuning guide, it’s easy to setup and trim right out of the bag,” concluded Snow.

The price of the North 3DL Genoa is $2,190.* Log on to the North Sails One Design Web site for more information. Or contact any member of the North One Design team  for more information or to your order your sail today. Online orders available!
