2008 North Sails Soling Ranking Announcement

After one more consecutive year of success for the Soling Class Ranking, we are glad to announce that North Sails One Design has signed up to be the main sponsor of the 2008 Ranking. Worldwide leader in the sailmaking industry and a strong supporter of the Soling Class, North Sails One Design is excited to sponsor the 2008 ranking. ”We are enthused to stimulate the competition between the great sailors that sail in the Soling Class.” said Soling World Champion and North Sails One Design President Vince Brun.

Here is how the Soling class ranking works: The sailors (crews and helmsman) are scored individually, and regatta points are directly affected by the number of competitors, creating a partnership between sailors and organizers to improve Soling Class events to attract more sailors and therefore bring more points to the game. The Soling Ranking is probably the only ranking that the crew can achieve more points than his usual helmsman. 390 sailors competed in 2007 and the winners were the Hungarian sailors George Wossala and his crew Peter Nemeth by only 0.2 points over the Argentine fellows.

Teams using North Sails achieved outstanding results in 2007 including the. World Championship at the end of the year. Brazilian team Vipal sailed by George Nehm, Marcos Ribeiro and Lucio Ribeiro used ES 12 mainsail, V1 and an A1 jibs in the difficult and choppy waves in Argentina.

As part of the sponsorship North Sails will provide a brand new Jib for the winner of the 2008 Ranking and sailing bags for the 2nd and 3rd places.

2006 Soling Worlds
Congratulations Hans Fogh, Gordon Devriers and Roger Cheer World Champions!

"Vince,

I enjoyed the winning and the sails worked out the way I hoped they would!

The V1+ is a great sail and we used it all the way up to 15-16 knots. Mainsail DC-1 have a good shape and with the full batten at the top and the soft cloth half way and all the way to the top. I would highly recommend that you make this mainsail standard, since it was definitely great “all around” . I used the full top batten in light and heavy air and it workout great. I also measured for the Worlds, an North A1 jib and a Monster spinnaker. In other words, I used a full North inventory, which gave me the edge necessary to win the Worlds.

I was very pleased with the speed and the sails we used and I recommend it to all your customers.

Once again thank you for your help.

Hans Fogh - 2006 World Champion
