The 138 ownership responsibilities used to be shared by Wendy Lotz and Chris Whithers. When Chris passed, Wendy became the boat’s sole owner. Wendy tries her hardest to keep the boat in a condition Chris would be proud of. This year the 138 got a new bottom job by Greg Younce in Bristol, a new mast from Cape Cod Ship Builders, new standing rigging from Phip Hallowell at Rig Pro, and a new tiller from Karl’s Boat Shop. Not only does the boat look great, but, it seems like the off-season work is translating into some impressive results. The 138 has started the season out with two top five finishes!
Sailing on the 138:
Wendy Lotz:
Wendy is a Fleet 9 regular. In addition to her Shields sailing, Wendy and her husband do a lot Swan 42 and J105 sailing.
Chuck Allen:
Chuck has made a number of stops on what has turned into his own personal “Shields Fleet 9 Carousel.” Chuck spent last year floating from boat to boat. Chuck’s go-go-go sailing attitude is contagious, it seems to add focus and podium finishes.
Brendan Marshall:
Brenday is the Lotz’ boat capitain. He manages the Shields, the J105 and the Club Swan 42. He has been down south for most of the winter but is happy to be back in Newport for a summer of Shields sailing and some more nice weather.
Steve Frazier:
Steve-O is originally from Ohio. He presently runs North Sails Direct out of the Portsmouth North Sails loft. Steve sailed at URI and continues to live in Matunuck. When Steve-O’s not sailing Shields, he’s Kiteboarding.
Doug Lotz:
Doug is Wendy’s son. He just graduated from The University of Pennsylvania but does not start his new job until February so he will be sailing with the squad this summer when he’s in town.
