For the years the North Highlander sail designs have dominated the racing circuit. Virtually the top ten in every Highlander regatta have sailed with North Highlander designs. Recently our Highlander sails were updated to include larger, better placed visibility windows and the sail shapes were faired and refined as the sails were redesigned to be cut on North's exclusive laser cutter. While other sailmakers have experimented with new designs and even copied what North has developed, North continues to dominate the Highlander Class.

NORTH HIGHLANDER MAINSAIL
  • The North Highlander Mainsail is built from 225 HTP cloth and constructed with a radial head and clew.

  • This sail is not only extremely durable, but also smooth in the heaviest of winds. It is fairly flat down low with a relatively open leech to help keep the sail from stalling in light winds and depower in a breeze.

  • Increased fullness up high in the North Highlander Mainsail adds to the sails power and pointing capabilities, without compromising its ability to depower in a breeze.

  • Vision and jib leech windows are included.

  • Mainsails include: battens, sail numbers, insignia, vision window and sail bag.

NORTH HIGHLANDER STANDARD / CLEWBOARD JIB
  • The North Highlander Jib is built from the same 225 HTP cloth as the main.

  • It is a relatively open leached jib to help increase the ease of trimming and steering.

  • Twist in the jib leech is important in a Highlander to help reduce backwinding the main, which is critical on this over canvassed one design.

  • The North Highlander Jib can be finished for either the standard inboard lead with a single grommet or for the clewboard system where the jib tracks are located on the foredeck.

  • Jibs include: vision window, and sail bag.

NORTH HIGHLANDER CROSSCUT SPINNAKER

  • The North Highlander Spinnaker is a cross cut design built out of .75 ounce Fleetwing material.

  • This spinnaker is designed to be relatively flat and open leeched up high for better performance downwind and broad reaching.

  • The open leeches give a more projected area downwind and help to keep the slot open between the spinnaker and the main while close reaching.
