NEW!! NORTH SAILS ORIGINAL RADIAL CUT COMPUTER MOULD DESIGN SYSTEM

North Sails One Design Japan have been developing this design system since 2001 with extensive sail testing sessions together with the world's top sailors. And now we have released the new base models after a long time preparation and testing.

RADIAL CUT means...
By having radial cut panel layouts with the investigation about stress direction through the whole sail area, we can have not only the lightest cloth but also a lot more durability with sail shape. Especially the strongest direction of the cloth laid along the leech. And there are much less horizontal seams which join the cloth along the leech, so the leech stretches less. For these reasons you can have more stability in the flying shape. As we use the most appropriate sail cloth for the radial panel layout, this makes these things work more effectively.

COMPUTER MOULD DESIGN SYSTEM means...
All of the panels have a slight amount of shape (curve) which is calculated by computer and shaped by a laser cutter. That is why you can have perfectly smooth, fair and stable sail shapes. Once you have tuned the rig with the basic design sail, the photo images taken of the mainsail from under the middle of the boom, from the side and behind while sailing in 8-10 knots wind (full power condition without vang) will give us all the information needed to develop the sail shape customized to your sailing weight, mast bend characteristics both forward and side ways, and the conditions you expect to encounter. You can access your favorite and ideal sail shape you want very quickly and accurately. You can have any kind of shape and changes quite freely on the computer mould once we have pictures. But the new base designs already has the shape well organized, so some sailors might not feel the need to change anything....

N13-L12 Mainsail -- Mens' Gold Medal!

  • 2008 Olympic Gold Medal main used by Nathan and Mal to dominate the men’s fleet. This sail was customized for Qingdao, though it performs very well in both light-medium/chop and vanging conditions. We released this design in early 2009 as an all-purpose sail to cover wide wind ranges.

  • Works with SuperSpar M7+ and Proctor masts.

  • Mainsails include: vision window, battens, sail numbers, telltales, insignia and sail bag.

You can customize your North radial main. This is one of the biggest advantage of North Radial. Customize will be done according to your mast bend profile, sailing weight, or target wind range. Use the North Sails One Design Mast Deflection Test. Send our experts the data and we’ll help you select the best mainsail model.

N9-L5 Mainsai -- Womens' Gold Medal!

  • 2008 Women’s Olympic Gold Medal used by Tessa and Elise. The N9-L5 was developed in 2004 and has been popular for teams using stiffer masts or lighter overall crew weights.  The N9-L5 has well-balanced depth with a fairly straight exit profile.  It’s known for a little flatter bottom and comfortable depth in the middle and top sections.

  • Works withstiff SuperSpar M7+, stiff Proctor, or TotalPlant masts.

N10-L5 Mainsail -- For soft masts

  • Designed to fit softer masts. It won the 2006 Women’s Worlds and continues to win on the World circuit. The concept behind the N10-L5 comes from the N9-L5, but offers a wider groove through pointing and speed modes. It has a little more luff curve and slightly more depth at the top section, so it can also work well for heavier teams. .

  • Works best with SuperSpar M7+ mast.

N10-L5H Mainsail -- For soft masts

  • This is a modification of the N10-L5 with emphasis on conditions in the upper-ranges of 8-18 knots.  We have also found that the main shows great performance in both flat and choppy conditions.  As compared to the N10-L5, the N10-L5(H) is slightly flatter in the top section which makes the top leech easier to open in lighter and heavier winds alike.

  • Works best with SuperSpar M7+ and Proctor masts.

  • Includes: vision window, battens, sail numbers, telltales, insignia and sail bag.

You can customize your North radial main. This is one of the biggest advantage of North Radial. Customize will be done according to your mast bend profile, sailing weight, or target wind range. Use the North Sails One Design Mast Deflection Test. Send our experts the data and we’ll help you select the best mainsail model.

C21-L5 Mainsail -- Gold in Athens!

  • The C21-L5 won the Gold Medal in Athens with Paul and Kevin and the 2008 Women’s World Championships with Erin and Iz. It is similar to the N9-L5, but slightly deeper with more twist.

  • This sail sets up best on a medium to stiff SuperSpar M7+.

S5-B4 Jib -- The Class Standard!

  • The S5-B4 is the class standard, pure and simple.  It won both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, as well as multiple World, European, and World Cup championships. We designed the S5-B4 for all conditions; it has a round entry, straight exit, and is easy to trim.

  • Includes: carbon battens, vision window, optional 7 x 19 luff wire (please specify) and sail bag.
  • Carbon Battens - S5-B4 features carbon battens, which are lightest, strong enough, and smoother shape. Minimize damage in heavy wind.

S18-B4 Jib -- New Design!

  • Though building a better sail than the S5-B4 is a challenge, we believe we’ve done it! This is a new design for 2009.  It has a slightly rounder entry and a more open top twist profile, allowing you to keep the top leech nicely breathing in all conditions.

  • Includes: carbon battens, vision window, optional 7 x 19 luff wire (please specify) and sail bag.

  • Carbon Battens - S5-B4 features carbon battens, which are lightest, strong enough, and smoother shape. Minimize damage in heavy wind.

V2 SPINNAKER -- Class Standard!

Another class standard.  The V2 won the 2004 Men’s Olympics, 2008 Men’s Olympics, and 2008 Women’s Olympics.   At the 2008 Games, 80% of the sailors choose the V2 with lighter cloth. The V2 is designed to be slightly flat in the head, allowing for better VMG angles in light air, flat water, and in breezy, pole-forward conditions. You can stabilize the shape by dropping the pole height in powered and choppy conditions.

This sail is available in 0.75oz cloth (standard) or 0.5oz cloth, all white or all blue.

A2 SPINNAKER -- Pure Power!

The A2 is our most powerful design.  It won the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 World Championships. The A2 has the widest projected area of all our designs, while still powerful on reaching angles. This is the best spinnaker for all-around performance and suits more physical crews.

This sail is available in 0.75oz cloth (standard) or 0.5oz cloth, all white or all blue.

VC-SP SPINNAKER -- Radial Layout!

We revitalized the radial layout concept with the VC-SP.  It is a progressive design that performs as an all-purpose spinnaker and is particularly stable in light air.  The cloth weight is minimum, but the construction allows the sail to be fast through the upper ranges.  The VC-4 most recently won the 2009 SOF Hyeres World Cup regatta. Available in white only.
