The Miami OCR hosted 3 divisions of Paralympic classes last week with great results for North Sails.
In the 2.4M Paul Tingley (CAN), current Paralympic Gold medalist, came from behind on the last day to best Thierrey Schmitter (NED) and current World Champion John Ruf (USA) 3 and 5 points respectively after the dust cleared on the 4 day, 10 race series. Tingley, using NSSWE 2.4M designs, won 3 of the 10 races. Schmitter used a partial NSSWE inventory while Ruf used NSNA designs, also won 3 races in his bronze medal performance.
In the Sonar class Aleksander Wang-Hansen, Per Eugen Kristiansen and Marie Solberg (NOR) displayed great technique and superb sailing skills to outlast the teams of John Roberston, Hannah Stoedel and SteveThomas (GBR) and Rick Doerr, Hugh Fruend and Brad Kendall (USA) to take Gold. Team GBR and Team USA both had late series rallies as their teams came into form but the team from NOR’s 3 bullets in the 1st 4 races proved a mountain to high to climb. All 3 teams used North exclusive inventories.
The Skud Class features OEM sails but the performances of the 2 USA teams should be noted. Scott Whitman and Julia Dorsett captured the Gold by sailing a great consistent series while Jen French and JPCreignou (USA) both off recent Sonar paralympic campaigns, finished with 4 wins in the last 5 races to secure a Silver medal.
Congratulations to all the teams on their success in Miami and continued good luck on the road to Weymouth.
